Executive coaching provides a confidential and supportive environment for senior leaders or those with high potential to become senior leaders.  An Executive Coach will ask questions, challenge assumptions, help achieve clarity, provide resources, and yes, sometimes with permission, provide advice.  They often administer and help interpret 360-degree and behavioral assessments, conduct confidential interviews to help you gain self-awareness, and work with you to establish development goals.

What is Executive Coaching?


Executive coaching is a one-on-one process that is designed to maximize your potential as a senior leader and visionary.  This often involves in depth work around executive presence, effectiveness and leadership abilities.  It’s not entirely different from what is often referred to as ‘life coaching' with the key exception being the primary goals are career driven.  It differs from 'career coaching' in that the focus is on elite level performance for those at an Executive or C-Suite level.


Executive coaching has a strong focus on leadership skills, strategic planning and visionary thinking.  It is about tapping into human potential and puts great emphasis on the present and the future.  It focuses on making changes in real time and takes advantage of experience-related learning (as it occurs in practical situations), rather than traditional learning, which often occurs in the context of hypothetical situations.   Executive coaching includes the added elements of accountability, responsibility, and follow-up, which differentiates it from many other learning and development methods.   

Why Executive Coaching?

While executive coaching can be used to correct identified gaps in performance or behavior, it is more often used to invest in future potential and provide support through leadership transitions.  Executive coaching can not only strengthen already existing leadership skills and further develop soft skills, it can also improve communication and inter-organizational relationships at a senior level.  Many executives have never had any formal training around being a senior leader.  Executive coaching can greatly help by enhancing “soft” or people skills, building strong relationships, lowering stress, and developing the emotional intelligence to be successful and effective in senior roles.
