Leader's Bookshelf: The FIVE DYSFUNCTIONS of a TEAM by Patrick Lencioni

This is one of my favorite business books and just re-read it. I have read it several times and each time I learn something new. This is not your traditional formulaic business text. The concepts are woven into a fictional business fable and this format does a great job of making the material accessible and entertaining. It’s also a great way to encourage the reader to connect with the characters as you would in a traditional novel. It improves retention and is a nice contrast to more traditional business writing.

Patrick Lencioni’s Five Dysfunctions may seem simple, but they’re not simplistic. Anyone who has worked with a group of people will recognize them and all of us have probably contributed to them at one time or another. While this book is not going to magically turn a dysfunctional team into a high performing one – it does raise awareness and that can lead to action. Even successful teams will find areas they can improve on by paying attention to these 5 areas.

It’s a quick read and if you take the awareness you gain and turn it into positive action, incredible things can happen. A must read for anyone who works on a team!
