The Review Written for the Old Job

It is self-review season, and the Understudy writes hers the way she always has. A careful list of tasks. Reports delivered, meetings run, problems solved.
Every line is true. Every line also describes the job she was hired into, not the one she has been doing. So the document that was supposed to make her case becomes the evidence for keeping her where she is.
A review does not just record what you did. It tells the reader what level you think you work at. The move is to write the next one in the language of the role she wants: the decisions she made, the scope she carried, what changed because of her.
Friday: a new leader in the neighborhood.
