The Vanishing Close
Watch the Apologizer finish. Or rather, watch him not finish. The idea builds, it is landing, and right at the end he trails off. Anyway. So yeah. That is just my two cents. The strongest part of what he said, the close, the part people actually carry out of the room, he gives away, as if staying in the sentence one beat too long would be rude. Openings and closings are where authority lives. It is the first thing you say and the last thing they hear. The Apologizer hands both away, one with a pre-apology and one with a shrug. Here is the whole fix, and it is subtraction, not addition.
Own your open and own your close. Start on the point, and stop on it too. No anyway. No two cents. Say the thing, then let the silence do the rest. The silence is not awkward. The silence is the confidence.
