How to Know If You're the Ghostwriter

You won’t catch the Ghostwriter in yourself by looking at your reviews — the work is good, so nothing looks wrong. The tell is in your pronouns. Listen to how you talk about a win: if it’s always “we shipped,” “the team pulled it off,” all true and all generous, you may be quietly filing your own contribution under everyone else’s name. If you can’t remember the last time you said “here’s what I did” — not the team, you — that’s the signal. It’s not that you’re not contributing. It’s that you’ve made your contribution impossible to see, and your manager can’t advocate for what she can’t attribute.
