New Muscles

New muscles.

This week we’ve talked about altitude — the level you’re operating at as a leader.

The pattern I see in nearly every leader I work with: they’re holding onto what made them great at the last job instead of building what this job actually requires.

Going from expert to beginner feels genuinely terrible. The new work is uncomfortable. You’re not good at it yet. And the old work is right there, familiar and reassuring.

But new muscles are sore before they’re strong. That discomfort isn’t a warning sign. It’s what growth actually feels like.

You don’t have to become someone else. You just have to stop being the old version of yourself in a role that’s asking for the next one.

Find the right altitude. Lead from there.

Have a great weekend.
