The Bench Behind the Save

Ask the Miracle Worker who could have done the last save. Not as well. Just done it. Usually there is a name, and usually it comes with a reason: not this time, too much at stake, faster to do it myself. Every one of those reasons is true, and every one of them is how the bench never gets built. The person who could have done it at seventy percent is still at seventy percent a year later, because the save never came their way. So the next time the impossible thing lands, she is the only one who can do it. That is not a compliment. It is a description of the system she built.
