The Reorg Is Not About You

The most important thing I tell leaders in the middle of a reorg:
It’s not about you.
I know it feels that way. When your scope changes, your team moves, your role gets ‘redefined’ — it feels personal.
It’s not. Reorgs are structural. The organization is trying to solve a business problem. The leaders who navigate them best stop asking “what does this say about me?” and start asking “how do I lead through this?”
The uncertainty is real. The disruption is real. But the suffering? That almost always comes from personalizing a structural decision.
What are you personalizing right now that might just be structural?
