The Costume of Care: What Control Is Really About

Here’s the part the Gatekeeper doesn’t see. He says, “If I stop checking, quality drops.” And for a quarter, maybe it does — while his people build the judgment he’s spent years not letting them use. Then it gets better than he alone could make it, because now it’s fifteen people catching things instead of one exhausted person catching everything.

Underneath, the control isn’t about quality. It’s about certainty. As long as it goes through me, I know it’s right, and I never have to trust someone else and risk being wrong.
